The cold temperatures have arrived and with the harsh conditions often comes skin dryness and irritation. Your winter skin needs some extra care, so here are a few tip for keeping your skin hydrated and healthy during the chilly season.
1. Use Gentle Cleansing Products
A mild soap is ideal for the winter months. Ingredients like plant oils, botanical extracts and goats milk tend to be non-irritating and gentle on sensitive skin.
2. Exfoliate
A gentle exfoliator can help remove dead skin skills which helps your moisturizer absorb better. Careful not to overdo it though and keep it to one to two times per week.
3. Don’t Forget Your Lips
Regular use of a good lip balm can help hydrate and protect your lips for the elements. Look for a
lip balm with both emollient and occlusive ingredients to seal in moisture.
4. Hydrate
Great skincare products can hydrate from the outside in, but don’t forget to hydrate from the inside out too. It’s easy to forget to drink water during the cold months. Consider sipping on herbal teas or warm broth to help meet your hydration needs.
5. Avoid Long Hot Showers and Baths
Hot showers can cause dry skin by stripping it off its natural oils. Opt for warm showers and baths and try to limit to around 10 minutes.
6. Moisturize Often
Whether you prefer a
lotion, cream or balm, carry a small container with you so you can re-apply as needed throughout the day.
7. SPF, Always
SPF is a must! UV rays are present even on overcast winter days. Sunblock should be part of your winter skincare routine to protect your skin from damage.
